This New Moon in Capricorn (1/18/2026) arrives with the powerful stellium of Mars, Mercury, the Sun and Moon all in the sign of the Seagoat. Venus leads this Capricorn stellium into Aquarius, which she only entered yesterday. The potency of this placement is increased by the Moon and Sun being at the last degree of Capricorn. What does all of this mean? An image that beautifully describes this transitioning of energies is the Two of Wands. A mature man is standing on top of a stone castle. This is a well built structure, acquired over time; all images that evoke Capricorn. The vista is of new beginnings and the learned man holds a world in his hands, contemplating fresh new adventure and possibilities; symbols evocative of Aquarius. The grey sky of neutrality and calm imply mastery (late degree of Capricorn) as the Waters of Life lie before him, continuing the representation of this New Moon’s frequencies as Jupiter is Retrograde (Rx) in Cancer. The Waters of the Great Mother nurture and her Seas soothe the intense energies of this New Moon, reminding us that we are held in Love.
Astrologer Molly McCord reminds us that these new possibilities are “Worth the work,” as Venus, newly in Aquarius, and conjunct Pluto, shows that our “values (are) open to breaking free from constraints of convention (Aquarius) WITH the tools and mastery that Capricorn taught us.”
We are bringing together Earth and Vision.
An intense configuration called a T Square has been playing out for several weeks. This brings all of that Capricorn energy in opposition to Jupiter Rx in Cancer as both square Chiron (the Wounded Healer) in Aries. We look to Libra, the ‘empty leg’ of this incomplete Grand Square to balance the energies (no pun intended). The Two of Swords exemplifies Libra as Blind Justice balances the swords of mental duality. Informed by the still Waters of Intuition behind her, she councils temperance, even handedness and harmony.
As for Chiron in Aries, we go back to the Two of Wands (a Fire suit) which shows a man (Animus) dressed in clothes of warm, rich red signifying the energy and fire of initiation and empowerment. This man has the dynamism and will to implement the next phase of his journey, one of the Healed Masculine (Chiron in Aries).
This reading expresses the highest frequency of these energies. It’s not hard to see the lowest in the world around us. We are challenged to keep our calm and ground our nervous system to offer the highest good to ourselves and to the World.
John Sandbach’s reading of this New Moon’s Part of Fortune: we are “learn(ing) how to maintain emotional peace and tranquility even in the midst of the energetic turbulence swirling around (us). As (we) perfect this, (our) Being expresses more and more the transmutative power of peace. “The constancy of love is like the platinum crucible which can withstand the fires of transformation.”…turning lead into gold.
Uranus Rx in Taurus is trine that Capricorn stellium bringing loads of intuitive flashes, insights and unconventional answers, which are greatly needed to stabilize and Root a New Earth.
Vesta is also conjunct Pluto in Aquarius, calling us to bring our highest visions and intentions into the Sacred Hearth Flame of our Heart. The Chinese character for Intention, Yì, is composed of three characters: 立 (lì) to stand, establish or build, 日 (rì) sun, and 心 (xīn) heart. May we Build a Sun in our Heart. The Rose and Lily in the Two of Wands signifies Purity of Heart. So the Sun in our Heart will be pure and kind.
Jupiter’s geometric placement in Cancer assures us that we are held by the Mother, and cradled, despite the tensions inherent in the Sacred Geometry.
We are building a solid foundation from which to launch a new journey, a new frequency, a new spiritual understanding. No one said it would be easy, and we had no idea it would be this hard. We can do it and it is worth it.
